AMC Sponsors
Our Sponsors are very much appreciated. Without their support and help we could not provide the extent of services we do for the moderate prices. For example, in 2004, 2005 and again in 2006 the Akamai Foundation provided a generous gift to fund an additional 25 ninth grade students for MOSP (Mathematical Olympiad Summer Program). For information on becoming a Sponsor please contact the AMC Director, Steve Dunbar.AMC Committees
The Committee on the American Mathematics Competitions (CAMC) is responsible for the policy governing the AMC exams and examination quality. The creation of the five AMC exams is the responsibility of subcommittess of the CAMC. There is one examination-writing subcommittee for each of the five AMC exams, the AMC 8 subcommittee, AMC 10/12 subcommittee, AIME subcommittee, and the USAMO subcommittee which reports to the CAMC through its chair. The CAMC itself consists of the chairs of the examination subcommittees, the chair of the Sliffe Award Committee, the MAA Governor-at-Large for High Schools and exoficio the Director of the AMC. The chair of the CAMC and the chairs of each of the examination subcommittees serve a three-year term, renewable at most once.
The CAMC examination subcommittees, each with 6-8 members, do almost all of their examination development by mail. The subcommittee chair sends out copies of the current draft of an examination for critique by the subcommittee and those AMC Advisory Panel members working for that examination. This usually takes six weeks to two months. After several such iterations the CAMC sub-committees meet once in the spring to go over the final version of the test to be given the following school year. The CAMC also meets in the spring to consider policy issues. The USAMO subcommittee meets in early May to correct the USAMO (which is an essay-proof type test) and again in June in Washington DC for ceremonies for the top twelve USAMO winners at the The Mathematical Association of America (MAA) headquarters, the National Academy of Sciences, and the Department of State.
AMC Advisory Panel
There is also a very important auxiliary group of volunteers who help the CAMC. They are the AMC Advisory Panel . The members of the Advisory Panel serve one-year terms, renewable indefinitely. They assist the CAMC examination subcommittees in generating new questions and in critiquing questions and proposed solutions for our solutions pamphlets. The chair of the CAMC solicits volunteers for the AMC Advisory panel to maintain a group of 55-60 very active members. Replacements for the CAMC examination subcommittee members when their six-year tenure expires are selected from the best of the AMC Advisory Panel members. If you're interested in serving on the AMC Advisory Panel, please contact the CAMC Chair, Prof. Elgin Johnston.AMC State Directors
The American Mathematical Competitions has State Directors to represent them in some of the United States and Canadian provinces. Some represent only the AMC 8 Middle School Contest, some represent only the AMC 10/AMC 12 High School contests, and some cover both middle and high school. They are prepared to answer questions relating to the contests, especially as pertain to your state or province.MAA Committees
The Mathematical Association of America (MAA) has several other committees which are related to our purpose and goals:- The Coordinating Council on Competitions
- Committee on Local/Regional Math Competitions
- Sliffe Awards Committee
